No matter how hard they try to bend to the fossil fuel industry in betrayal of the American people, they will not succeed in withholding Congressionally-mandated federal funds for EV charging. We fought tooth and nail to reverse the administration\u2019s unlawful freeze of the NEVI charging program\u2014and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sierraclub.org\/press-releases\/2026\/01\/judge-protects-billions-reliable-ev-charging-cleaner-air-and-lower-driving\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">we won<\/a>. We\u2019ll do the same for CFI.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>Background:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>In December, Sierra Club, Climate Solutions, NRDC (Natural Resources Defense Council), and Earthjustice <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sierraclub.org\/sites\/default\/files\/2025-12\/cfi-complaint-cs-sc-nrdc.pdf\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">filed a new challenge<\/a> \u2014 following a lawsuit from 16 states and D.C. \u2014 to the Trump administration\u2019s hold on federal funding in the $2.5 billion CFI grant program. <\/p>\n<p>The CFI program was created by the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, which appropriated $2.5 billion for the program over five years.
